Campaign Donors: Energy Bill / Exxon Mobil

  • Lieberman voted for President Bush’s energy bill, which rolled back environmental regulations and provided billions in tax breaks to energy companies. (HR 6, Senate Vote 213, 7/29/05)
    • During debate over the energy bill in 2005, Lieberman’s communications director, Matt Gobush, left to become manager of executive communications at Exxon Mobil. (Connecticut Post, 6/19/05)
    • Lieberman’s former chief of staff, Michael Lewan, has lobbying clients that will potentially receive tax benefits from the energy bill. Lewan registered to lobby the Senate on energy issues, including HR 6, for Idaho Power Company and Toyota. (Senate Office of Public Records)
    • Oil and gas companies contributed more than $60,000 to Lieberman during his U.S. Senate career. (Center for Responsive Politics)
