LIEBERMAN DEFENDS EARMARKING AS CT IS BEING RIPPED OFF BY THE PRACTICE
In the latest pork-laden transportation bill, CT got $98.29 per capita in earmarks. Despite Lieberman’s bluster to the contrary, this was a very mediocre return. For some perspective, Alaska got $1,597.09 per capita (over 16 TIMES as much), Rhode Island got $269.81 (2.74 times as much), and Delaware got $214.78 (2.19 times as much). This means that earmarking is hurting Connecticut even more than it is hurting the rest of the country – it means Connecticut is effectively subsidizing out of control earmarking in other states.
